Time Out says

On the ninth lunar month, devotees of Tua Pek Kong flock to Kusu island to pay their respects at the Da Bo Gong temple. During this time, members of the Siong Leng Musical Association also make their way to the island to perform Nanyin – which loosely translates to 'sounds of the south', one of the oldest styles of classical Chinese music – and occasionally Liyuan opera, a type of Chinese opera from Fujian. Join in the festivities and partake in a vegetarian meal as part of the event.
