Esplanade is launching the very first edition of VOICES, a festival that celebrates the versatility of the human voice. Vocal groups will be brought together from various cultures onto one stage for three days, with a series of free and ticketed performances for the ear-hungry audience.
Ticketed performances include the Grammy Award-winning Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, who will be performing motets by Johann Sebastian Bach and Johannes Brahms, plus works by prominent Estonian composers. Four unique local groups – JuzB, Key Elements, MICapella and Vocalptulous – will combine their forces for a series of choral Colours. An exotic performance to look forward to is Khusugtun, an ensemble that practices the art of Mongolian khöömii (throat singing), accompanied by traditional Mongolian instruments (horse-head, yatga zither).
If you’re not satisfied with mere listening, each ticketed performance offers a corresponding singing workshop (throat-singing, anyone?). There will also be free performances by top groups from acapella championships at the Concourse and mass sing-alongs at the Esplanade’s Outdoor Theatre.
