Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is set to come alive with song this December, thanks to the return of Voices – A Festival of Song. After a two-year hiatus, it’s back as a full-fledged festival that will bring together a colourful cast of voices across choral, opera, a cappella, pop, xinyao, and more.
Happening from December 1 to 4, Voices 2022’s 10th edition has the theme of homecoming. And true enough, you can expect familiar faces from past editions of the festival, such as UK a cappella group The King’s Singers, who’ll be performing a magical Christmas concert with their signature charm and class.
The A Cappella Gala on December 4 will also welcome back MICappella (Singapore) alongside regulars like local singing group 1023 and Filipino group Acapellago. Join them at the Esplanade Concert Hall for a lively evening of pop, Mandopop and Singaporean hits. You’ll be among the first to hear their international debut of Mambo Jambo Medley, written in tribute to Singapore’s Mambo Jambo party phenomenon.
Whether you’re a seasoned performer of a bathroom belter, you can also hone your singing chops at one of the many workshops available during Voices 2022. Dive into the world of folk song improvisation with renowned local composer and arranger Dr. Zechariah Goh or beat your performance nerves under the tutelage of award-winning Japanese-American soprano Akiko Otao.
You can join in the fun as part of the audience too! Voices 2022 is bringing back its singalong programmes, including Musical Theatre Open Mic and the popular Karaoke box live at Esplanade.
