PSA: There’s much more to Japanese tea than matcha, and it’s a whole world of flavours tied with culture. Take the chance to widen your tea repertoire at Singapore’s Japan Tea Festival, which is making its return on October 10, 2025.
At this free-entry event, discover the rich history of Japanese tea culture and savour rare varieties from over 15 regions in Japan – including Kyoto, Shizuoka, Kagoshima and less-frequented areas. You’ll also get to enjoy food pairings that demonstrate how certain teas best complement different types of Japanese tidbits, as well as sample Japanese sweets infused with tea.
One of the not-to-be-missed highlights is an insightful sencha ceremony, performed live by a tea expert to showcase the art of Obaku Baisa-ryu Sencha-do – a practice that uses the flavour of whole green tea leaves and special teaware, rather than powdered ceremonial matcha. There will also be collaborations with Fukujuen, a teahouse from Kyoto; Japan Rail Café Singapore; and the Singapore arm of JTB, one of Japan’s largest travel agencies.
Singapore’s Japan Tea Festival will be happening on October 10, 2025, 12pm to 4pm, at Four Points by Sheraton’s Jubilee Ballroom. Entry is free, but online registration is encouraged.
