Bras Basah Complex might look like another ageing mall, but those in the know recognise it as Singapore’s quiet arts heartland. Well, here’s your chance to explore every corner of the complex on March 7 and 8, at the very first Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB) Open House.

Dubbed New Chapter, the two-day event is just the start of the precinct’s next phase as Singapore’s Creative District, bringing attention to its often-overlooked streets and spaces through arts, culture, and local talent.

This time, Bras Basah Complex gets the spotlight, with guided walking tours on March 7 and 8 that take you to meet the local tenants and collectives who’ve quietly kept the place alive for years. To name a few, Chinese bookstore Union Book, premium art and pop culture collectible shop INKINK Collectibles, as well as antique and artisanal violin shop Shaojun Violin Shop, will all open their doors. The tenants will also present live demonstrations and run hands-on workshops, which isn’t something you get every day.

The community at the open house will not be limited to the current tenants, either. Check out the craft market to pick up vibrant illustrations, linocut prints, or get your caricature drawn by local creatives such as reddillustrates, then0ize, and caricagen. A stamp rally will also lead you on a trail to hunt down five participating local stores – wheniwasfour, Fook Hing Trading Co., Xinyue Music Studio, Maha Yu Yi Bookstore, and Union Book Co. – where you'll walk away with several discount vouchers once completed.

Live music will fill Bras Basah Complex from 1pm to 2 pm daily, with open jam community Ann Siang Sounds taking over on Sunday from 4pm to 6.30 pm. Stick around for the evening outdoor movie marathons and a crafty Community Chill Zone, and take home a free memento at the three-cut photobooth outside ToastBox – just give Bras Basah Bugis and Bras Basah Complex a quick follow on Instagram to redeem your prints.
