Dining in to resume from August 10 – but only for those vaccinated

The first step (hopefully) towards a new normal

Look forward to the easing of safe distancing measures come August 10. The country will allow dining-in at F&B outlets of up to five people from next Tuesday onwards – but only for those fully vaccinated.

Group sizes for social gatherings will also be increased from two to five, and each household can receive up to five distinct guests. According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), these measures come as part of a preparatory stage (August 10 to early September) as Singapore slowly transitions into a Covid-19-resilient nation.

During this period, fully vaccinated individuals will be able to partake in higher-risk activities – including mask-off sports and larger-scale events. Those who are not vaccinated will only be allowed to join such activities if they have a negative pre-event test result.

Hawker centres, on the other hand, will allow people to dine in – regardless of vaccination status – but only in groups of two.

Should the situation remain stable, measures will be further eased come August 19, and the cap on event size and mall capacity limit will also be allowed to increase.

And come early September, when most of the population is vaccinated (around 80 percent), Singapore will then be ready to move on to “transition stage A” – one where the economy can open up, welcoming even more social activities including travel. This step-by-step easing will gradually take place until we can – finally – reach a new normal.
