Disney’s Beauty and the Beast The Musical has waltzed into Singapore with all the pomp, polish and petal-strewn romance you’d hope for, and then some. Now playing at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands till January 25, 2026, this freshly reimagined production doesn’t just rely on nostalgia, but also leans into spectacle, heart and a very knowing wink to audiences who grew up belting the Oscar-winning titular song.

Let’s start with the obvious: it looks gorgeous. This new staging is even more lavish than its Broadway debut some 30 years ago, pairing grand, storybook sets with impressive theatrical tech that makes the enchanted castle feel properly alive. It also uses clever lighting cues that whisk you from the provincial town to the enchanted castle in seconds.

Then there are the effects. Lumière doesn’t just talk a good game – he literally plays with real fire, while Mrs Potts puffs and steams her way through scenes like the most charming teapot you’ve ever met.

Musically, fans of the original film will be pleased to know the Alan Menken score is treated with reverence – those melodies still soar – but the updated choreography and orchestrations give everything a bit more bite. Plus, the new numbers add extra emotional texture without feeling like unnecessary padding.

But when the big numbers land, they really land. ‘Gaston’ is an absolute riot, morphing into a big showcase of extended dance sequences and even circus flair, with Gaston flexing his ego and skill set through archery, shooting, hunting bravado and general peacockery. ‘Be Our Guest’ is another knockout, with a celebratory spectacle that builds and builds with vibrant visuals, French cabaret numbers and court dances, culminating in a confetti pop. And when ‘Beauty and the Beast’ finally arrives, it’s so unapologetically nostalgic that resistance feels futile. Time Out tip: bring some tissues.

The cast lean confidently into both heart and humour. Shubshri Kandiah’s Belle is all warmth and quiet steel, played as a heroine who’s curious rather than cutesy, while Brendan Xavier brings an affecting vulnerability to the Beast, proving that beneath the growls and blue tailcoat is a lovable softie. The supporting cast have a ball too: Lumière and Cogsworth lean into the classic double-act fun, Mrs Potts is pure comfort viewing, and Gaston remains gloriously unbearable.

Beyond the theatre, the magic spills out into the city. To mark the show’s arrival, Marina Bay Sands and Singapore Flyer have all been bathed in Beauty and the Beast’s signature purple hues, turning the skyline into a fairytale backdrop till December 14. Over at Changi Airport Terminal 2 Arrivals, Belle’s iconic yellow gown is on display, greeting travellers with a reminder that you’ve landed somewhere special.

Ticket holders get a few enchanted perks too, from Jewel Changi Airport shopping vouchers to beauty treats and dining discounts around Marina Bay Sands, ideal if you fancy extending your night out with themed cocktails, desserts and milkshakes.

Perhaps the biggest reason to go, though? This Singapore season is the production’s only stop in Asia. That makes it a rare chance for regional audiences to experience Beauty and the Beast in this freshly reimagined form.

Tickets start from $70. Get yours here.
