Fusing legwork with a deep dive into Singapore’s neighbourhood stories are five new heritage trails, launched by the five Community Development Councils (CDCs) in partnership with the National Heritage Board and GovTech Singapore.

The five trails span neighbourhoods across the island, each clocking in at a comfortable four-ish kilometres. In Kampong Glam, the Central Singapore route (about 4km) winds through one of the city’s most storied quarters, where heritage shophouses and cultural landmarks sit side by side. The journey starts at Singapore’s Peranakan Museum, before continuing to Bras Basah Complex. From there, the trail moves on to Masjid Sultan and Golden Mile Food Centre before ending at Jalan Besar Stadium.

Over in Bedok, the South East route (about 4.1km) dips into stories of old shorelines and military landmarks that once dotted the area. Here, head off from checkpoint one located at Bedok’s Former Coastline. Journey along Sennett Road, explore the Eastern Military Landmarks, wind through the scenic Highlands of Bedok, and wrap up your trail at Simpang Bedok.

Out west, the South West trail in Jurong stretches roughly 4.6km and offers a scenic stroll past familiar green spaces and local icons. Kick off your walk at Jurong Town Hall, then venture into the Water Lily Pavilion at the Japanese Garden. Stoneboat at Chinese Garden is next on the itinerary, followed by The Lone Tree at Jurong Lake Gardens. The trail concludes at Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre.

More trails include the Woodlands trail, a breezy 4.4km coastal-style walk, and the North East trail (around 4.3km), which traces the evolution of one of Singapore’s best-known heartland towns, Tampines.

The trails aren’t just a flash in the pan either. The CDCs promise 20 heritage trails over the next two years. The initiative is also riding the Healthier SG wave, encouraging regular walking as a form of exercise. The trails are also accessible, with easy routes designed for people from all walks of life.

There are rewards up for grabs along the way as well; all you have to do is sign up for a CrowdTaskSg account. Simply locate Active Checkpoint 1 on the map and tap its icon to begin. At each checkpoint, complete the tasks to earn a piece of the CDC Trails badge and unlock the next stop along the trail. Once you’ve collected all five badge pieces, you can redeem a $5 RedeemSG Reward. Also, don’t forget to spot all six of Singapore’s CDC mystery mascots to redeem a reward of $10. This reward system is available to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents aged 15 and above who have both a Singpass and a CrowdTaskSG account.
