It has been two years since Le Matin Patisserie shut its doors in ION Orchard. But if you thought it was goodbye for good, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised – chef Mohamed Al-Matin is making a comeback with an under-the-radar spot in the West.
Since launching Le Matin in 2020, chef Al-Matin has built a reputation for bending French pastry rules without breaking them, before stepping away from a permanent space to take things global with overseas pop-ups, collaborations, and projects.
The new store, named Le Matin Petit, is tucked inside Viva Vista Shopping Mall. Cosier and more pared back, it leans firmly into a takeaway-first format – seating is scarce, so don’t expect to camp out.
Head to Le Matin Petit in the day between 10am to 2pm, and you’ll be met with freshly baked sourdough brioche rolls. Flavours range from red hot fried chicken to smoked beef cheek banh mi. All rolls can be paired with soup, salad or fries, alongside coffee, tea or kombucha.
Weekends, however, will welcome back the cult classics that regulars would be familiar with – think kouign amann, pain au chocolat, pistachio escargot, fermented mushroom quiche and wagyu bone marrow pie – released in limited drops.

As the afternoon rolls in, Le Matin Petit hands the reins to Après Gelato, a dessert-led offshoot that leans playful but stays precise. Expect small-batch churns in flavours like toasted rice, jasmine apricot, and the intriguingly named “after 8”, alongside waffles and layered parfaits.
Après Gelato is set to open in April 2026, and our best guess is that Le Matin Petit will debut around the same time. Stay tuned for the exact opening date, but in the meantime, follow Le Matin on Instagram here, and Après Gelato on Instagram here.
