Whether you want a celebration in the heartlands or a parade in the city or just witness colourful explosions in the sky, National Day this year ticks all the boxes.

The highly-anticipated National Day Parade will return to Marina Bay floating platform this August 9. In addition, celebrations leading to the nation’s 57th birthday will kickstart the weekend before at 12 locations across the island.

“The National Day Parade (NDP) 2022 Heartland Celebrations seek to engage Singaporeans, their families and communities in the National Day festivities,” said parade organisers and the People's Association (PA) in a joint statement. Crowd favourites like the community fireworks and jumps by the Red Lions parachutists are among the few events to look forward to this year. Also, large-scale carnival activities will return for the first time since the pandemic.

Carnivals

Organised in partnership with the People’s Association, the carnivals boast exhibitions, performances and family-friendly activities.

This August 6 from 4pm to 9pm, visit four of these themed carnivals at the following locations:

  • Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, Ficus Green - Celebrations in the Park
  • Punggol open field beside Waterway Point - ONE Heart @ North-East
  • Open field next to Sembawang MRT Station - Family Bliss @ North-West
  • Open field next to Buona Vista MRT Station - Celebration with Our Stars

On Aug 7, another carnival will be held at Geylang Wisma Serai - themed Celebrating Togetherness @ South-East and it will also run from 4pm to 9pm. Take note that those above 12 must be fully vaccinated to attend the carnivals – unless you are certified to be medically ineligible. Entry tickets and coupons will be made available to the public at all community clubs. Tickets will be issued on a first-come-first-served basis and the coupons can be used to redeem items such as NDP packs at the carnivals. Entry-only e-tickets can also be applied via the BookingSG link on the NDP website from 10am on July 23. More details can be found on the NDP website.

Fireworks Displays

This year, fireworks will be set off at five heartland locations on August 9, the same time as the display at the main parade in Marina Bay. From 8.15pm, fireworks will be seen at these places:

  • Jurong West Stadium
  • Woodlands Stadium
  • Bedok Stadium
  • Site of former Tampines Junior College
  • Field in front of Ang Mo Kio Public Library

Red Lions Freefall

The skydiving Red Lions will also make an appearance. On August 7, the Red Lions will conduct freefall jumps at 9am at the following locations:

  • Open field next to Junction 8 in Bishan
  • Open field along North Buona Vista Road, near Ghim Moh Food Market

The parachute will engage with the public after the jumps, said the parade organisers. On August 9, two Chinook helicopters will fly the state flag across Singapore. Each Chinook will be escorted by two Apache attack helicopters, and they will fly approximately from 5.25pm to 6.15pm. Look up into the skies as they each will cover areas like Bukit Panjang, Bukit Timah, Kranji, Choa Chu Kang, Jurong, West Coast, Khatib, Sengkang, Punggol, Bedok, Pasir Ris, Changi and East Coast. From 5.50pm to 6.15pm, six F-fighter jets will fly across the island in a delta formation.
