Indonesia is one of the most orchid-diverse countries in the world – and you can now view some of its most gorgeous native species at Gardens by the Bay.

This year’s Orchid Extravaganza shines the spotlight on Indonesia’s rich botanical diversity and cultural heritage, bringing over 7,000 orchids and installations such as large-scale anyaman sculptures – made with the Indonesian technique of weaving plant materials.

The highlights of the show are Indonesia’s beloved orchids, handpicked from at least 5,000 species native to the archipelago. These include the world’s largest orchid species, the Tiger orchid; one of Indonesia's three national flowers, the Moon orchid; and striking Antelope orchids, named for unique, curled petals resembling antelope horns.

Aside from floral displays, explore nine larger-than-life anyaman sculptures woven by 27 Balinese artisans, like a Komodo Dragon, and the towering ceremonial Ondel-ondel puppets. There are also traditional models, from the saddle-shaped roofs of Batak communal houses to Indonesia’s shadow puppet, wayang kulit.
