September is unofficially panda month now. River Wonders is throwing birthday parties for its beloved resident pandas Jia Jia and Kai Kai, who are turning 18 and 19 respectively. And alongside this occasion, a panda-themed immersive exhibition also makes its international debut right here in Singapore.
Running from September 4 to 14, the Panda Planet Immersive Experience makes its first stop outside China at River Wonders, courtesy of iPanda and Mandai Wildlife Group. The exhibition is split into three zones, covering everything from panda evolution and behaviour to conservation efforts, with a mixed-reality experience that drops visitors into a virtual bamboo forest. There are also trivia challenges, panda-themed photo spots and exclusive iPanda merchandise up for grabs.
Then come the birthday celebrations. Jia Jia turns 18 on September 2, with her celebration taking place on September 5, while Kai Kai turns 19 on September 14 and gets his party on September 13. Both parties will take place at Pavilion Capital Giant Panda Forest. The pandas will be given ice cakes and treat-filled enrichment boxes, designed by their care team to encourage natural foraging behaviours while keeping the birthday boys and girls suitably entertained.
And for those still emotionally attached to Le Le, Singapore’s first and only locally born giant panda cub, you’ll be happy to know that the birthday zone will also share more about his journey since January 2024, when he joined the giant panda conservation programme at the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda.
The Panda Planet Immersive Experience runs 9am to 6pm daily, with the last entry at 5pm, and is included with River Wonders admission.
