South Korea's comedy-thriller Parasite has made Oscar history by winning Best Picture. This victory marks the first non-English speaking film to do so – and is one of only 11 foreign-language films that have been nominated in the category throughout 92 ceremonies. The dark social satire also took home three other trophies: namely best original screenplay, best international feature and best director for Bong Joon-Ho. This is in addition to the film's previous awards at the Golden Globes – where it won best foreign-language film – and the Screen Actors Guild awards.

If you're planning to catch it, here's a crash course for the uninitiated: Parasite, which has attained critical and commercial success worldwide, examines income inequality, class and greed through the lens of interconnected families in Korean society. Get comfy, strap yourselves into your seats and follow the lives of a lower-income family who infiltrates a wealthy household, only to learn a dark secret.

Not sure where to watch the movie? There are still screenings at these cinemas in Singapore:

  • Cathay Cineplex - Jem
  • Filmgarde Cineplex
  • Golden Village (GV Plaza, Tampines, Vivocity, Suntec City, Funan)
  • The Cathay Cineplex
  • The Projector
