We’re almost done with half the year, and some of us are getting a tad restless – for that we don’t blame you one bit. If you haven’t already planned an overseas trip for the second half of the year, then you’re scrutinising our list of remaining public holidays in 2025 to see how you can strategically pencil in an overseas trip without burning the rest of your annual leave. Still undecided on your next adventure? Consider some of the top up-and-coming vacation spots for Singaporean travellers in 2025.

Travel company Skyscanner previously released a travel trend report for 2025, and many of the destinations that Singaporeans have on their radars are pretty unexpected. Surprise, Tokyo and Osaka are not on the list for once (although budget flights by Japanese airlines Air Japan and Peach Aviation do present us with very tempting options).

Turns out, the most sought-after places are in China, with Lijiang in Yunnan leading the pack at #1, followed closely by Chongqing (#3) and Hangzhou (#7). In second place is Thessaloniki in Greece (not Athens or Santorini!), while Okinawa – the only Japanese destination in the list – scores fifth. Read on to see which underrated holiday destinations you should add to your bucket list. And if you’re a parent, check out our list of top 10 trending holiday destinations for Singaporean families in 2025 for options that are more child-friendly.

Top trending travel destinations for Singaporeans in 2025:

  1. Lijiang, China
  2. Thessaloniki, Greece
  3. Chongqing, China
  4. Tromsø, Norway
  5. Okinawa, Japan
  6. Rovaniemi, Finland
  7. Hangzhou, China
  8. Daegu, South Korea
  9. Paro, Bhutan
  10. Innsbruck, Austria

Disclaimer: the above list is based on a surge in flight searches across half a year in 2024, compared to the same period in 2023 – which may or may not translate to actual bookings made. However, the fact that there has been up to a 410 percent increase in searches for such places does strongly hint at a certain level of interest.

Travel trends in 2025 for Singapore travellers

As part of the same report, Skyscanner shares that some of the upcoming vacation trends for Singaporeans in 2025 include travelling to ‘reset’, where 77 percent are of the belief that overseas trips are essential for mental wellness.

Interestingly, close to 60 percent of Singapore travellers are keen to travel to places featured in the video games they play.

To steer clear of the crowds, consider skipping autumn for a non-peak period, as the season is a hot pick for travelling, right alongside sakura season and springtime in general.

According to Skyscanner, some of the biggest factors for Singaporeans in deciding on a holiday destination include the food (75 percent), attractions (65 percent), and weather (62 percent), with shopping and feasting on local delicacies being some of the most popular activities. And while travellers from Singapore do veer towards cost-savvy flights, a significant majority are still keen on travelling at the same frequency, if not more, in 2025 compared to last year in spite of the current economic situation in the world.
