Singapore’s Changi Airport is already known as the world’s best airport – and it’s about to get even better. After years of planning, work has finally started on Terminal 5 (T5) – the airport’s newest and biggest expansion.

Set within the 1,080-hectare Changi East development – nearly the size of the current airport – T5 is expected to handle around 50 million passengers annually. Its exterior design features overlapping curved roofs inspired by leaves, creating a warm and inviting ambience.
A new automated passenger transport system, similar to the existing Skytrain, will connect T5 to Terminal 2, ensuring seamless transfers for travellers.

The terminal will also be well connected to public transport for improved accessibility, with plans to extend the Thomson-East Coast Line and the upcoming Cross Island Line directly to the terminal. New roads will be constructed along the Changi Southern Corridor to connect T5 directly to Tanah Merah Coast Road, East Coast Parkway and the Pan Island Expressway.
Construction is underway, with the terminal expected to open in the mid-2030s.
