Singapore’s Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum has experienced its fair share of tenancy struggles, and through no fault of its own. First, it was forced to move out of its original Chinese Garden home after almost 17 years due to redevelopment in the park. Then, six years after relocating to Orto in 2019, it was deja vu when it had to vacate its space in 2025 to make way for new BTO flats.
But owner Connie Tan – who took over the sanctuary from her late father, and now runs it together with her son, Jedd – has never been one to give up on her beloved reptile friends. With sheer grit and some help from the community, the turtle and tortoise sanctuary is now up and running again as of August 23, 2026 – in a bigger, better home just a stone’s throw from its previous location in Khatib.
If you’ve been following the Live Turtle Museum on Instagram and especially YouTube, you would have seen its brand new building take shape from the ground up – starting from an almost barren plot of land, progressing to the beams of its foundation, and finally the completed turtle enclosures.
Connie and Jedd have been heavily involved in the whole process, often visiting the site in hard hats and high-vis vests to ensure the very best for over 600 of their turtles, tortoises, and terrapins. While it hasn’t exactly been glamorous with dirty hands-on work and heavy lifting, building the new space from scratch also means better plumbing for the turtle tanks and the opportunity for a more comfortable and spacious habitat for the four-legged creatures to thrive in.
Like before, the family-friendly centre is open for walk-in visits, where you’ll be up close with various species like the Box Turtle, Indian Star Tortoise, Pig Nose Flying Turtle, Softshell Turtle and more – even getting the opportunity to feed and pet some of them. Group tours can also be arranged.
The Live Turtle Museum is located at 11 Chencharu Close, Singapore 769287, within walking distance of Khatib MRT station.
