UPDATE, March 27: In light of the latest measures and restrictions put into place by the Government to reduce the risk of imported cases and local transmission of COVID-19, i Light Singapore 2020 has been cancelled. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of the public and participants. Artists whose artworks have been selected will be invited to present their works in the next edition.
UPDATE, February 11: Amidst the 2019 novel coronavirus situation, this event is postponed to a later date, which will be announced in due course. According to a statement by i Light, the move is in line with the advisory to cancel or defer non-essential large-scale events. The artworks and complementary activities lined up for the upcoming festival also require visitors to come into close contact with the artworks or other individuals. It joins other events that have been postponed or cancelled due to the novel coronavirus such as the NUS Arts Festival, Chingay 2020 @ Heartlands and Checkpoint Theatre's The Nuclear Family. If you were looking forward to seeing a specific installation at i Light Singapore, don't fret – artists whose artworks have been selected for this year's edition will be invited to present their works again.
January 22: The Marina Bay area is set to be illuminated with artworks and light installations. An iconic event on the arts calendar, i Light will be returning from March 6 to 29 with the theme Re:Light, Re:Live and Re:Imagine. For this year's edition, local and international artists are invited to create artworks that seek to encourage conversations about our lifestyles and decision-making to achieve a more sustainable future.
Presented by URA, the Festival's line-up of artworks and programming will inspire visitors to make small but consistent changes to their daily habits that can impact broader issues like climate change. Many artists have responded with creative ideas that explore and reimagine the endless potential of everyday objects and waste, and repurpose them into stunning light art installations at Marina Bay.
