Tampines cyclists can look forward to new cycling paths after the recent announcement by LTA to increase the length of cycling paths in Tampines to 30km by 2026. The expansion of routes aim to improve connectivity between various places in the area, and of course, provide Singaporeans with more activities to engage in during their leisure time.

In a Facebook post, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) called for a tender to expand cycling paths in Tampines, connecting places like Tampines Avenue 2 and 7 to hubs such as Tampines East MRT station and Tampines Mall.

Currently, Tampines has 17km of cycling paths, 4km of which were launched in January 2022. The paths connect residents living in Tampines Avenue 1, Tampines Avenue 4, Tampines Avenue 5 and Tampines Avenue 8. Another 5km of cycling paths are currently being constructed around the central areas of Tampines Avenue 5, Tampines Street 12 and Tampines Street 21. They are set to be finished in 2024.

Tampines will have an additional 13km of new cycling paths by 2026 to allow cyclists ease of travel, said LTA in its post. This will bring the total coverage of cycling paths in the town to around 30km.

The project also includes an overhead cycling bridge to Pasir Ris and a cycling underpass to Simei. These facilities aim to promote better connectivity to other neighbourhoods.

The cycling bridge will be constructed across the Tampines Expressway (TPE) and will allow cyclists to travel between Tampines and Pasir Ris with ease. Cycling bridges will encourage cyclists to continue riding up and down the ramps, as opposed to pushing their bikes up pedestrian overhead bridges.

LTA also mentioned a new cycling underpass that will run parallel to Tampines Street 31, connecting Tampines and Simei.
