In an era of mass-produced fast fashion, Tanchen Studio is a breath of fresh air. Founded by Sanchia Tan and Amber Chen, a pair of former university mates who studied the art of textile design with a specialisation in weave at London’s Central Saint Martins, this slow label is a work of passion where the duo create and sell what they do best.

No prizes for guessing what that may be. In line with the founders’ field of study, Tanchen Studio focuses on painstakingly handwoven home goods and accessories, though it first started out doing larger-scale tapestries for display purposes. Today, its product line mainly features everyday items that are built to last, serving equal parts of function and art. Think cup holders, beaded coasters, lightweight but sturdy bottle carriers, and even foldable stools, a crowd favourite.

Tanchen Studio’s first physical flagship opened in Shanghai in 2021, but its goods are stocked in numerous cities all over the world, including but not limited to New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Tokyo, and Seoul. Locally, it counts The Editor’s Market, Sojao, and Studio Yono as its stockists. Still, loyal fans and newcomers will be excited to learn of its first Singapore boutique at Bukit Timah.

At this living room-like space, you’ll be able to get an actual look and feel of an expanded range of Tanchen Studio’s creations, taking your time to pick out items that best speak to you.
