Ever catch a whiff of a particular scent and be instantly reminded of a specific place, person, or moment in time? That’s what Maison Margiela’s Replica collection is all about – scents that evoke memories. While memories are highly personal and unique to each individual, the French perfume label’s fragrances are designed to conjure up universal experiences, and its latest eau de toilette, Afternoon Delight, is one that’ll have you daydreaming about indulgent teatime treats.

In celebration of this launch, the luxury Parisian brand is hosting a House of Memories pop-up near Bugis with a café this May. Step into the two-storey olfactory playground and try out a range of bestselling scents, not just with conventional perfume testers but through different experiential zones. There’s a cosy fireplace setting featuring By the Fireplace, a spicy and woody blend with Christmas vibes; a bedroom setup full of fluffy white pillows for Lazy Sunday Morning, which mimics the fresh scent of clean laundry; and a mirrored room with deck chairs and sand for Beach Walk.

Things get a little more mysterious as you enter a dark room featuring Maison Margiela’s Fantasies EDPs, which arebolder and differentiated from the EDTs with their black bottles. Be transported to a fantasy world with projections of scenes like a lush forest and pastel pink skyscape as you get acquainted with three signature scents: Soul of the Forest, Flying, and Dancing on the Moon.

TIME OUT TIP Make sure you complete all the checkpoints in the pop-up, as doing so will allow you to redeem free Maison Margiela perfume samples – all without having to spend a single cent.

With Afternoon Delight smelling just like vanilla cake, we don’t blame you one bit if you start getting peckish. It’s just as well that you can make the most of your time here with some baked goods and beverages at the Parisian-inspired café area. There are three bakes to choose from, all named after Maison Margiela’s scents: Afternoon Delight ($5), a vanilla and brown butter madeleine; Dancing on the Moon ($7), a black tea cake, and Lazy Sunday Morning ($10), a fresh cream poached pear shortcake. Drinks ($5 to $9) are mostly coffee-based, but there’s also hot or iced chocolate (from $6) and the On A Date berry soda ($7) if you’re not up for caffeine.

As part of the pop-up, you’ll also get to enjoy special perks like customisation of your bottle label and accompanying drawstring pouch, along with special gifts with purchase. Every purchase comes with a free sample vial of Afternoon Delight, and the more you buy, the more freebies will get stacked on – this includes bundles worth up to $189 with larger perfume vials, body lotion, shower gel, scented candles and more. If you’ve always got your eye on Maison Margiela’s perfumes but just never took the plunge, now’s the best time to give them a shot.
