This viral Korean dance company is bringing ‘Hip Joseon’ to Singapore with free performances

Korea has never been short of ways to capture our attention. We’ve danced along to K-pop, binge-watched K-dramas and chased down the latest Korean food craze – but there’s another cultural export worth getting acquainted with. Meet contemporary dance with a distinctly Korean twist, where centuries-old traditions meet hip-hop, street culture, and a whole lot of attitude.

From September 25 to 27, Ambiguous Dance Company is bringing its distinctive ‘Hip Joseon’ style to Singapore for three days of free performances and interactive experiences. The Seoul-based company shot to international fame with Tiger is Coming, a performance featured in the Korea Tourism Organization’s Feel the Rhythm of Korea promotional series. Its signature style combines traditional Korean aesthetics with contemporary dance, music and pop culture.

Presented by Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korean Embassy in Singapore, the festivities kick off on September 25 at *SCAPE’s Outdoor Plaza, where you won’t just be watching Ambiguous Dance Company from the sidelines. The company’s dancers and choreographers will lead an interactive performance and workshop, inviting audiences to get involved and learn the moves themselves. No dance experience? No problem. The session is designed to be accessible, friendly and, most importantly, fun.

There’s also a K-Sool tasting booth, where you can get acquainted with traditional Korean beverages while soaking up the performance. Consider it a cultural double-header: one for the eyes, one for the tastebuds.

Then, on September 26 and 27, things move to the Esplanade – DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre for a full-scale performance as part of Crossing Borders 2026, where Ambiguous Dance Company will represent Korea. Expect traditional and contemporary Korean music, with a DJ and traditional Korean vocalist, or sorikkun, accompanying the dancers – all against the Marina Bay skyline at night.
