Tom’s Palette closes for good after two decades this October

Here’s a bitter scoop of news – Singapore is about to lose one of its most adventurous gelato places. Tom’s Palette, the home-grown gelato shop that has spent the last 21 years turning everything from cough syrup to bittergourd into dessert, is calling it a day.

The brand announced yesterday (August 11) on Instagram that the Bugis and Kovan outlets will close sometime between mid to late October. Tom’s Palette’s journey hasn’t always been smooth, having weathered a difficult period in 2024 when its Bugis outlet was temporarily suspended over food safety lapses. The team took the incident seriously, made changes to its processes and kept going – which makes this latest chapter all the more bittersweet.

For those who are strangers, Tom’s Palette is a home-grown gelato shop that has been doing things decidedly differently since 2005. With outlets in Bugis and Kovan, it made its name with an eclectic roster of flavours inspired by local favourites, nostalgic treats and the occasional curveball – think kueh bangkit, pi pa gao, and even bittergourd flavours. 

If you’re just like us and have started to reminisce about everything from Old Fashioned apple pie and white chocolate nori to the seasonal nasi lemak – don’t worry, there is still one last chance to get your fix.

Every Tuesday at 6pm, Tom’s Palette will bring back a rotating selection of its fan favourites as part of its Encore Collection – available for pre-order by the pint. Expect throwbacks such as Mao Shan Wang, Taiwanese sesame brittle and soya bean youtiao – find the full lineup on its website. From now until August 23, you can purchase Melt & Sizzle Version 2 ($24), Mocha MacNut ($21), and Nasty Mix ($21).
