From October 10 to November 1, global institutional investor GIC brings The Secret Vault: An Immersive Experience to New Bahru School Hall. This free, sensory-led experience takes you behind the scenes of how Singapore’s reserves have been safeguarded – and what it takes to think several steps ahead.
There are six immersive zones. Your journey begins in The Archive, where voices, documents and artefacts bring Singapore’s early financial history to life. Discover how a single torn dollar bill became part of the story of safeguarding the nation’s reserves, and hear from Singapore and GIC’s founding leaders, including Dr Goh Keng Swee, Lee Kuan Yew and Yong Pung How. You’ll even get to step into the shoes of GIC’s first managing director Yong Pung How, who started his GIC career with little more than a bare desk and a clear mandate.
Then, things get decidedly more interactive. In The Global Inflation Hypermart, race against the clock as the prices of everyday goods climb while your budget stays the same. Consider it a crash course in inflation, planning ahead and why thinking beyond today can make a difference to your financial future.
Next, brace yourself for The Weather Room, where you can actually experience the uncertainty behind 45 years of global events. Watch calm conditions give way to sudden storms and discover why preparing for uncertainty matters.
Over in The Steward’s Gardens, patience is rewarded. Tend to an interactive digital garden and watch flowers bloom over time as you learn about concepts such as thinking long-term and being risk-aware. Because whether you’re growing a garden or planning for the future, some things simply can’t be rushed.
Then, go global at The Globe, where you’ll explore the breadth of GIC’s investments across markets, sectors and geographies, including brands and companies you may recognise. Finally, The Reserves of Tomorrow brings the experience back to you, inviting you to think about the future you want to build.
