Those wanting to travel between Singapore and Malaysia via public buses and cross-border taxis can now do so starting May 1. This follows the reopening of land borders between the two countries for fully vaccinated travellers earlier this month, and more than two years after the services were suspended in 2020.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that SBS Transit will resume the operation of bus services 160, 170 and 170X. SMRT Buses will also restart its 950 cross-border services, while Transtar Travel will kick start the operation of its TS1, TS3, TS6 and TS8 services. According to LTA, the three aforementioned bus operators have been training their drivers and conducting route familiarisation since the start of this month.

The operating hours of Services 160, 170, 170X and 950 will be the same as pre-Covid, and these services will run between 5.20am and 12.30am. Service 160 connects Jurong East to Johor Bahru via the Causeway, while service 170, takes commuters between Queen Street Terminal and Larkin Terminal in Johor Bahru. Service 170X travels between Kranji MRT station and JB Sentral, and service 950 starts from Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange and loops at JB Sentral Terminal.

The frequency of these bus services will also be similar as pre-Covid-19 days, LTA said. Services 160, 170 and 950 will be operating at intervals of up to 20 minutes during peak hours and intervals of up to 25 minutes during off-peak hours. Service 170X, on the other hand, will operate at intervals of up to nine minutes during peak hours and up to 17 minutes during off-peak hours.

You are encouraged to check LTA’s MyTransport.SG app or operators’ websites for bus operating hours and arrival timings. With the resumption of these bus services, the existing Vaccinated Travel Bus Services operated by Transtar Travel and Handal Indah will cease on the same day.

Malaysian bus operator Causeway Link said it will also resume its CW1, CW2, CW5 and CW7 bus services from May 1, before reinstating CW3, CW4 and CW6 in June.

Taxi operations will also resume from May 1. Those intending to travel to Johor can board a taxi at the Queen Street taxi Terminal or book one with a licensed cross-border taxi driver. LTA advised travellers to comply with travel requirements of both countries to ensure smooth immigration clearance.
