For two years, this Keong Saik shophouse restaurant ran as the dainty French fine- dining stalwart Provence Le Restaurant, but now owner Andre Rannaud has decided to simplify things by rebranding the space as an after-work chill-out spot, with wines directly imported from small producers such as Francois Chidaine ($60), a Tourraine Sauvignon Blanc 2011 from Loire and Tardieu Laurent ($98), a Saint Joseph Vieilles Vignes 2004 from Rhone, all served with nibble portions of ikan billis in onions, chilli padi and lime. To further pad the stomach, there’s foie gras toast ($10) and onglet skewers ($12) – smoked beef served medium rare with tarragon sauce. For sharing, try the duck platter ($15) with duck terrine with green peppercorn, duck rillette and Castaing-stocked duck breast, or the Alleosse cheese platter ($28) with a selection of Brin d’Amour, St Necraize, Bleu d’Auvergne and Gruyere Fribourg, flown in from Paris.
