Our recent Friday night visit to a packed dining room told the story, and the robust Italian chefs dashing about behind the glassed-off kitchen were a reassuring sight. Now that La Braceria has closed (while looking for new premises), Borgo is our new favourite spot for home-made pastas (including the rarely seen, ear-shaped orecchiette) and sausages. The menu is cheap, classic and no-frills, and served in hearty portions, like parpadelle with a rich wild boar sauce streaked with basil, a zesty eggplant parmigiana and wonderful thin-crust pizza topped with meaty discs of sausages. Round it all off with a perfectly done chocolate almond cake.
