Time Out says

A hop away from massively overbooked sister hole-in-the-wall, Teppei, Hanare on Tanjong Pagar has the same odd winning formula that has queues snaking out of Yamashita Teppei’s Orchid Hotel joint.

Simple, functional furnishings? Check. Cheap Japanese cuisine that’s mostly holds true to its flavour roots? Check. Teppei’s signature, super craveable chunky chirashi? Hell yeah. Teppei’s famed bowl ($17.60) – it’s overwhelming, but in a good way – of sashimi salmon, tuna swordfish, surf clam and roe no doubt draws crowds their way where the buffet falls short.

Though priced cheaper than most other eat-all-you-want meals in the city ($19.90), the tepid spread of cooked dishes like gyozas, tempuras, curry and then odder creations like ham and cheese spring rolls is only redeemed by a premium side which changes daily – past plates featured yellowtail sashimi coated in a soy sesame sauce, and raw salmon sashimi with salmon roe (check Hanare’s Facebook page to see what’s on when you’re planning to visit).
