At this smart, secreted-away bolthole, homesick Japanese salarymen line the long, teak-coloured wooden bar hulking over the daily special banshaku sets, which include a large mug of Sapporo and three courses of delicately wrought dishes. On our visit, sautéed prawns with red peppers, and grilled sliced chicken in spicy garlic sauce impressed, as did the firm pork balls slathered with aubergine slices in a lively tomato-y sauce. Pricier than nearby Miz, for sure, but the kitchen here is much more inventive and doesn’t embarrass come bill time. Decent, varied sake list too.
Sets (three courses plus beer) $30++.
