The second Japanese establishment to open along Club Street this month (the other being Izy, see Review), this 50-seater combines the concept of a sushi bar and izakaya, creating a place where one can dine on traditional Japanese cuisine and try classic cocktails with a twist. There’s an industrial feel to the décor, with bare lightbulbs and cement walls; the action centres on an open sushi bar where you can watch the chefs prepare your food. Signature dishes include Kurobuta pork sausage ($16) and tuna tartare on toast ($12), all prepared behind the counter. Among the Japanese-inspired cocktails to try, there’s the Truffled Japanese Whisky Sour ($16) that incorporates a dash of truffle oil in the mix, plus the Ginza Mary ($16), with a smidge of wasabi courtesy of owner Clement Chin.
