Please, let this be better than JooJoo. The chocolate cake empire’s youngest addition is this all-day wood-and-concrete dine at the Esplanade that serves a jumble of Western, European and Asian dishes. Expect mains like the karubi (boneless Japanese short ribs served with grilled zucchini, baby buttered carrots and caramelised shallots, $32) to the ‘lobster with sheets’ (buttered lobster with pasta sheets in pecorino, ricotta and parmesan cheeses and bisque gravy, $42); and starters like the crab cheese soufflé ($18) and traditional Chinese kiam chye arg (salted vegetable duck soup, $9). There’s also an all-day breakfast menu of eight items. What about dessert? Loola’s Floating Island is a dense and lightly salted butterscotch brownie hidden under peaks of meringue, sitting in a vanilla-infused sauce ($15).
Main courses $28-$42.
