Yes, the French name is misleading; Si Bon is a Japanese joint. This little gem, tucked away in a tiny converted chapel, barely seats ten, and though there’s a sushi counter in the patio outside, ignore it. It’s all about the fabulous kushikatsu – a dégustation- only menu of deep-fried skewers featuring a variety of finely breaded vegetables and seafood. The combinations are imaginative: cuttlefish and sea urchin, mustard seeds that resemble caviar, tender beef, asparagus spears…The choreography of dishes is finely tuned by the chefs at the counter kitchen, each skewer arriving just as you’ve finished the last one. It’s an expensive meal, but more than justified by the sheer quality of the presentation and ingredients.
Dinner set meal $150.
