Don’t let the meek-sounding name fool you. A concept unique to multicultural Singapore, Tongkang is a bar and restaurant housed on two anchored boats on the Singapore River. Paying homage to Singapore’s colonial days, old-fashioned menu items like Mulligatawny Soup ($12) kickstart a hearty meal that wouldn’t be British without Angus Prime Ribs ($55-$88), plated with Yorkshire pudding, new potatoes and an ‘East India’-inspired salad with spiced yoghurt dressing. Also worthy of mention is their bountiful gin selection (Bulldog, No. 209 and Blackwood’s, $14-$15) among other cocktails.
