The 12-seater café – only open Saturdays – is not a place you can find by walking along the obvious lane denoted by its address. To find the blue metal door with a 48¾ sign, either make a back alley detour from the main Niven Rd street, or enter in through the doors of Hotel 81 (near Rex Cinema, just off Little India) and walk out its backdoor. Upon reaching, knock and wait for a jangle for entrance. Brewing US-brand beans from Blue Bottle Coffee Co, Stumptown Coffee Roasters, and Handsome Coffee Roasters, acquired recently, Whale & Cloud’s pay-with-a-tip coffee comes with complimentary iced gem biscuits and can be enjoyed with a rotational spread of bakes from Kisses Bakery (red velvet slice $4, carrot cake $5).
