Miss Japan? While global borders are still closed, those itching for a taste of travel can head over to Japan Rail Cafe to soothe their wanderlust. Together with Japan Airlines (JAL), the café will serve up a selection of in-flight meals from January 2 to 31.
Meals, with only 600 available daily, have been specially prepared by SATS, the carrier’s in-flight caterer in Singapore. Choose from the salmon miso yaki ($25), with miso-marinated salmon fillet atop shredded tamago and Japanese rice; or the chicken takiawase tamago ($23) that comes with chicken thigh and rice. Both meals will come with options of either chilled udon, or a side of spinach, corn, and shimeiji mushroom cooked in a slurp-worthy broth. And to complete the meal, tuck into its signature earl grey chiffon cake.
But the sweetest part is probably the accompanying side of ticket promotions. All in-flight meals ordered will come with airfare discounts of up to 28 percent, valid for travels till March 31 2022. For a chance to sample these special meals, it's best to swing by Japan Rail Cafe (walk-ins only) when doors open at 11am.
Before leaving, don’t forget to browse the selection of exclusive JAL keepsakes, which includes an adorable chopstick holder ($19), wrapping cloth ($14), and more. Come weekends, JAL cabin crew will also be onsite to provide origami and furoshiki-wrapping lessons.
