Dose! at Tyrwhitt Road

Many cafés have the all-too-familiar backstory of an ex-banker or lawyer abandoning the corporate life for another full of latte art and early morning pastries. Dose!, on the other hand, has a much more personal feel. Born out of their grandfather's unrealised dream of owning his own business, the sibling owners Jackie and Veronne Sim have used the Chinese signboard that gramps crafted for his future company for their own café. The English translation reads 'fulfilment of ambition'. 

The café has a succinct menu where classic breakfast foods make their stand: there are croissants with fillings ($7.50-$9.50), savoury waffle sandwiches ($13.90-$15.90) and breakfast platters ($13.90). To really feel like you've just woken up, complete the meal with coffee ($3-$7), chocolate drinks ($6.50-$7.50) or an organic matcha latte ($6.50-$7.50).
