Walk down Haji Lane and soon you'll be stopping dead in your tracks – thanks to the heavenly scent of delicious bakes wafting from the French American Bakery.
This Halal bakery was opened by pastry chef Aishah and her husband in 2021. Since then, they've been attracting long queues of customers, who are there to pick up French and American breads, pastries, cakes, and cookies.
Eye-catching (and mouth-watering) options include cinnamon buns ($5.60), genuinely massive balls of fluffy bread layered with cinnamon and a generous drizzle of icing sugar. You might have to share that one to make space for other delights, like the flaky kouign-amann ($5.80), vanilla bean crème brûlée ($6.80), madeleines and financiers. Don't miss out on its cakes too – the carrot cake is our favourite ($8.50/slice).
The French American Bakery is takeaway only, but that's ok because you can pack the bakes away for a pleasant stroll down Haji Lane. If you're not too keen on waiting in line, then you can preorder both delivery and takeaway at thefrenchamericanbakery.cococart.co.
