Time Out says

Humbly serving up hearty plates of fried chicken rice for over 40 years in the Central Business District, most aren’t strangers when it comes to the name, Golden Nur. Formerly operating out of the now-defunct Golden Shoe Food Centre, this family business has since grown from one to three stalls at the new Market Street Hawker Centre.

While there are quite a few perennial favourites for you to work down the menu – such as Roti Prata ($1.20), Soto Ayam ($3.50), Mee Rebus ($3.50), Nasi Goreng ($3.50) and even giant Murtabaks ($6) – the Crispy Chicken Rice is without a doubt the top contributor to their lingering queues. At $5.50 a plate, it is simply great value these days.

What comes along is an entire fried chicken leg (thigh in) atop fluffy white basmati rice with pickled cucumbers and sweet garlicky chilli to pair. At first glance, it’s fair game to think that the chicken looks a tad dry but you’ll eat your words as soon as you tuck in. Expect flavourful crunchy skin encasing succulent meat within. Each bite bursts with notes of cumin, lemongrass, and turmeric while a drizzle of sweet kicap manis rounds up each satisfying bite.

HOT TIP for maximum indulgence, request for more crispy batter that comes on the side. These tasty little morsels are irresistibly crunchy and add a little texture and savouriness to the dish. You can thank us later.

Into spice-ladened biriyanis? Definitely try the Mutton Briyani. This no-frills dish sees the likes of a large fork-tender chunk of goat, mildly spiced curry – mainly cardamom, cumin, and turmeric – and aromatic biryani rice that featured long luscious grains that were not clumpy. A truly hearty meal to get you through your day in the office.

Take it from us – if you’re the type to count calories then you’re better off with a salad bowl. But if comfort food is what you’re searching for, the nosh at Golden Nur is surely worth the wait.
