Time Out says

Sample specialty dishes from six of the city’s top hawker stalls, including Michelin-accredited brands, in a single sitting at this food court. Hawkers’ Street at Ion Orchard provides a convenient, one-stop destination to eat your way through some of the city’s most famous concepts, without having to zip around the island.

Come hungry, and take your pick from hawkers both traditional and new. Get wok-kissed noodles ($6) from Nam Sing Hokkien Mee, which usually draw queues at Old Airport Road Food Centre. The usual sambal is replaced with cut red chillies for a milder accompaniment to the dish. Another slurp-worthy option: Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee from Eunos Hawker Centre. Fifth-generation owner Ler Jei Wei continues to safeguard his family’s 100-year-old recipe, where noodles ($5) come served with a garlic-scented broth, dressed with plump pork dumplings and minced meat.

Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice from Jalan Besar also makes an appearance. Choose from its selection of freshly prepped ingredients – braised pork belly and pork cutlet are must-haves – and mix everything together with spoonfuls of slick curry gravy and braised pork sauce (from $4.90). Aside from heritage hawkers, there is also newcomer King of Fried Rice, with numerous outposts around the country. The stall heroes the humble egg fried rice (from $4.50), dressing the dish up with juicy grilled pork chop or crabmeat and tobiko, and flavoured with XO, tom yum, or mala sauce.

Remember to save space for some winning snacks. What was once a pushcart at Tiong Bahru Market has since earned a Michelin Plate in 2019. Jian Bo Shui Kueh is best-known for its soft water cakes, or shui kueh ($3.20), crowned with pickled radish. Ann Chin Popiah also got a Michelin Plate nod in 2019. Till today, the stall insists on making each popiah skin by hand, resulting in paper-thin sheets that require two layers to encase its crunchy fillings with ($2.50).

During this period when dining out is still not allowed (now till August 18), Hawkers’ Street remains open for takeaway, and has launched its delivery service on major food platforms to help satisfy your cravings for local flavours.
