Ondeh-ondeh, pengat pisang, puteri salat, badak berendam and pulut hitam. No, these aren't kuih you will find at Julie Bakes. Rather, they are some of the flavours of cake available at this shop located along the bustling Bussorah Street. Inspired by the classic kuih flavours we all know and love, Julie Bakes cakes are a true taste of tradition-meets-modern.
Take the pulut hitam cake, which features pulut hitam-flavoured sponge with actual coconut milk-infused black glutinous rice sandwiched between the layers. Meanwhile, the badak berendam has pandan-based cakes filled with grated coconut and fragrant gula melaka pieces. Both are finished with a drizzle of coconut milk for that superbly rich texture that local kuih are known for.
