"Tropic like it's hot," say the folks at Low Tide, and you can certainly see that sentiment reflected in its menu. Located on the ground floor of buzzy 98 Club Street (Ssal and Ghostwriter are just upstairs), Low Tide's menu celebrates the vibrant flavours found in tropical countries across Southeast Asia – stretching as far as Mexico and the Caribbean. Standouts include the stingray, grilled with a miso butter glaze and drenched in a tangy curry-assam blend. Also try the nasi ulam, a heritage rice dish that should be heavy but gets much needed lift from generous heapings of herbs and greens.
Drinks too are refreshing, summery concoctions. You can't go wrong with the Low Tide, a spicy rum and Aperol drink that bursts with citrus and allspice; or the sour plum swizzle, a gorgeous rum-based cocktail with sour plum, absinthe, and bitters. The Manilla Vice makes a pretty picture too – check out those purple ube layers in this daiquiri and pina colada mashup.
