With a name that translates to ‘The King of Gyoza in Osaka’, the massively popular casual Japanese gyoza and Chuka (Chinese) cuisine diner Osaka Ohsho has over 300 branches around Asia. They’ve now set up their first outlet in the Little Red Dot, and if our general love for all sorts of dumplings is anything to go by, it’s likely to be a good fit. Their specialities are the handmade gyoza ($3.90 for six, $7.80 for 12) that packs pork shoulder and leg, cabbage garlic and ginger in a thin wanton skin fried to a crisp on one side. The restaurant’s menu of Chuka cuisine also includes home-style dishes like mabo (or mapo) tofu ($7.90), double cooked pork ($9.90) and cold appetiser ban ban chicken ($5.90) that takes its cue from Sichuan cuisine, plus a selection of Japanese staples like saba miso ($10.90) and salmon shio yaki ($9.90). For better value, opt for the Chuka and Japanese set meals ($10.90- $14.90) that come with egg drop soup or miso to complement select main dishes.
