Tucked away on the fifth floor of the sprawling metal tower of OUE Downtown Gallery is a hidden pocket of quiet. Finding The Garden Club might be tough; you need to navigate a confusing maze of identical-looking corridors. But when you do, the space greets you with its vegetable-forward menu and verdant greenery. It shares the same entrance as a yoga studio. It has a rooftop garden which, depending on what’s in bloom, might sneak into your lunch bowl or cocktail glass. It also serves salads.
Naturally, the food served won’t hurt your waistline. Lunch time features healthy bowls of rice or salad you can customise (from $8). You know the drill – choose your base, protein, and a selection of sides that include fried brussels sprouts, roasted purple carrots, and stir-fried kailan and kale.
As night falls, its menu expands. Start with the photogenic Summer Medley ($8), a deconstructed fruit salad with citrus-infused compressed watermelon, honeydew ribbons, and mild pickles topped with basil gel and tarragon oil. Mains like barley mushroom risotto ($12), miso chicken breast ($17) and garden ragu fettuccine ($15) made from Beyond Meat lets you enjoy your meal without feeling too guilty. Even the drinks served have a botanical theme, like the Rasa Sayang ($16) with white wine, lemon soda, lychee, and dried rosebuds; or the gin-based Kensington Cooler ($16) shaken with earl grey, honey, lemon juice, and dried lavender buds.
