From an oriental oasis in the heart of Orchard Road to a refined 'House of a Chinese Scholar', Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant has completely overhauled both its decor and menu. The newly refurbished space sports dramatic black and gold walls, booth seats that look like giant jewel boxes and framed pieces of artistic calligraphy at every turn.
Executive Chinese chef Brian Wong Shiuh Yean helms the kitchen, cooking classic Cantonese dishes such as stewed bird’s nest with egg white, crab meat and superior soup ($68), and wok-fried Iberico pork with home-style spiced sauce ($30). Each dish is made with ingredients that have been carefully selected for their quality and taste. The chef has also reduced the amount of sugar, oil and salt used in his recipes to provide guests with healthier options.
In true Cantonese style, dim sum is also available for lunch during weekdays. On weekends, indulge in a dim sum buffet starting from $68. Favourites include the steamed shrimp dumpling with black truffle and cordyceps flower ($6/two pieces), crispy mango prawn in rice roll ($6.50), and deep-fried taro dumpling with mini abalone and scallop ($10.50/two pieces).
