With trippy paintings on the wall, a wooden swing hanging from vines, a dreadlock station and reggae beats playing through the speakers, it’s as if you’re climbing up to Bob Marley’s attic when you pay these five dare-to-dreamers a visit at the second-floor space in the heart of Little India. A didgeridoo tucked behind the clothing rack will warrant another look as it can be mistaken for a device more fitting to the setting.
Childhood friends Rahmat, Moodz, Nas, Scoob and Shida have been working on a hipster clothing line since January 2010, and have since expanded to include dreadlock and leather-making services – self-taught skills picked up during their teenage years. ‘This is our dream. We don’t like working. We just want to do what we’ve learnt from young,’ Rahmat says. Indeed, it isn’t called work if you enjoy it – their vast networks in South-East Asia and Europe enable these party-hearties to travel and import handmade goods. Denise Cheong
