Established by local fashion designer Alicia Ong (from label Al&Alicia) and founder of JIAN Associates (an architecture and interior design company) Ian Yeo, this hidden gem may be a little out of the way, but it’s worth the walk. Its name comes from an imaginary character dreamed up by the owners, and the shop’s design plays into its concept, placing products and shelves at a lower level to accommodate the ‘little man’s’ viewpoint and displaying an ever-changing selection of eclectic items to suit his inquisitive nature, from accessories, skincare products and even popsicles. Step inside, and you’ll find a myriad of indie brands like SHIRT SHIRTS, Sifr Essentials, Color Me Pretty, The Vamoose, Silas & Maria, Popaganda, and, of course, Al&Alicia. The resulting kooky mix of items ranges from leather bags to organic creams and vintage accessories, as well as an assortment of books and magazines like Frankie and Wonderland. We especially adore Hay’s quirky feather pens ($9.90) and ombre tea towels ($35 for two), as well as Febronie’s fabulous Fouta ($78), a hand-woven towel made of natural cotton yarn that can also be used as a tablecloth or even picnic blanket.
