There’s a calming touch to Mei Semones’ music, a rare and interesting blend of bossa nova, jazz, chamber pop, and indie rock. The Brooklyn-based Japanese-American artist takes over Pasir Panjang Power Station for the latest instalment of the Alex Blake Charlie Sessions. The gig is part of the singer’s international tour in support of her debut album, Animaru, released last May. The record consists of 10 tracks that are sung in both English and Japanese, delicately capturing Semones’ cross-cultural identity. Expect to hear hits like “Dumb Feeling” and “Tora Moyo” live, alongside staples such as “Inaka” and “Tegami”.
Following her concert in Singapore, Semones will head to Manila to wrap up the Asia leg of the tour, before returning to the US for shows in Honolulu, Knoxville, New Orleans and more.
