Need ideas on how to spend your SingapoRediscovers Vouchers this December holidays? We've got you covered. ArtScience Museum will be extending its opening hours till 9pm (last admission at 8pm) every Friday and Saturday from December 4. Catch all three exciting exhibitions from just $21 and a special Christmas film suitable for the young and young at heart.
Get your creative juices flowing at 'Sketch Christmas', a special festive installation at Future World: Where Art Meets Science. Watch in awe as your hand-coloured drawings come alive in the imaginative festive town where flying colourful sleighs and reindeer abound. Then, catch 'Planet or Plastic?', a collaboration between ArtScience Museum and National Geographic. The exhibition aims to raise awareness through more than 70 powerful photographs as seen through the lenses of National Geographic photographers and explorers who have witnessed – and are still doing so – the devastating impact of plastic pollution on the natural world, especially in the oceans. Featuring the work of researchers, scientists and artists, the exhibition traces the history of plastic from its invention the mid-1800s to the present day where seemingly everything is made of plastic.
Closer to home is ArtScience Museum's latest exhibition, 'Margins: drawing pictures of home'. Presented as part of the 7th edition of Singapore International Photography Festival (SIPF), spotlighting the work of 15 contemporary photographers as a reflection of topics important to Singapore today, particularly urgent during these uncertain times. Spot familiar and recognisable landscapes and people that are subtly mediated through the photographic lens to encourage us to question our understanding of belonging. This exhibition explores our hopes and dreams for Singapore; and the stories that help us define the places we call home.
Last but not least, 'ArtScience on Screen' gets a merry twist this December with a month-long screening of wintry themed episodes from Adventures from Moominvalley, featuring the adorable Moomin family. The series from 1990 to 1991 follows the magical quests of a young Moomin and his friends in the idyllic Moominvalley. Admission is free, although visitors are encouraged to pre-book seats online due to limited capacity.
