You’ve probably already read the book Dracula and seen plenty of big-screen adaptations of Bram Stoker’s Gothic drama, but have you ever experienced a ballet version of it? You’re in luck because Dracula: Ballet at its Darkest finally makes its Asian premiere at the Esplanade Theatre for a limited five-night run.
The critically acclaimed production created by award-winning choreographer Joel Burke reimagines the legendary vampire story as a brooding and haunting spectacle of movement, featuring a score that combines the works of Bach, Rachmaninov, Mozart, Liszt, Debussy, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns and Mussorgsky. The performance is brought to life by an international ensemble of dancers from some of the world’s finest ballet companies, including Mariinsky Theatre, English National Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, The Australian Ballet, and Queensland Ballet. The Singapore staging comes after the show had previously graced London’s West End for a sold-out season and toured across Australia and New Zealand.
