Time Out says

Did you know that before Punggol became an eco town and the Silicon Valley of Singapore to house major tech firms in AI, cybersecurity, and robotics, it was once an area known for fishing, poultry and pig farming? Well, if you didn’t, you know now. HAN@Punggol Open House invites you to rediscover its storied past through a series of exhibitions, heritage trails, workshops and storytelling sessions that celebrate the vibrant residential district and its community.

At the centre of the programme is Marking Punggol, an exhibition by contemporary Thai artist Mit Jai Inn featuring 99 colourful papier-mâché stool sculptures that you can actually take home. The catch? Instead of paying, you’ll have to clock in some volunteer hours at a charity or non-profit organisation based in Punggol in order to collect one of them. Other highlights include a communal seafood feast, a resident-led showcase on the neighbourhood’s pig farming history, and an audio heritage trail that leads you along Punggol’s coastline.

The two-week community festival also marks the launch of the Heritage Activation Node at Punggol. This three-year initiative aims to create opportunities for its residents to connect with one another through art.
