It's a Barbie world at House of Dreams, a new exhibition by Ion Orchard in collaboration with Mattel and entrepreneur slash avid Barbie collector Jian Yang. The month-long showcase at Ion Art Gallery presents a star-studded cast of 600 Barbies, all dolled up in red carpet-ready wear from international design houses and local fashion labels.
The exhibition is set against an absolutely pink location inspired by the Barbie Dreamhouse. Fashion lovers will love the red carpet fashion section, featuring Barbies outfitted in apparel from internationally renowned design houses like Valentino, Louis Vuitton and Christian Louboutin. And local pride! Homegrown lifestyle and fashion labels like KLARRA, Love, Bonito and IN GOOD COMPANY are represented too.
In the pop culture line-up, you'll get to meet stars like Elvis and Shakira alongside superheroes like Superman and Wonder Woman. Here's where you can soak in that old Hollywood glamour too, with Barbies of Audrey Hepburn, Frank Sinatra and more. Not forgetting the F1 race-themed dolls to jive with the Singapore Grand Prix Season.
Over the years, the Barbie line-up has evolved to represent a more diverse spread of skin tones, body types, and careers. Expect to see that inclusivity and message of empowerment on display at House of Dreams too. And if you want to get hands-on, Singaporean Barbie collector Jian Yang will be holding a paper couture workshop where you can create your own Barbie outfit from upcycled materials.
House of Dreams is showing at Ion Art Gallery from September 20 to October 21, 10am to 10pm daily. The workshops will be held on October 8 and 15 at 2pm and 3pm at Ion Art Gallery.
